ABOUT

OUR HISTORY DATING BACK TO 1950

In 1950, after service in the Army, Chuck Mullen had a childhood friend who headed three Laundromats in the city of Lockport. Soon finding out he needed a person to maintain the washers and dryers on a regular basis, he approached Chuck to help him out. Not knowing a thing about appliances, Chuck agreed. Since that first blind repair, the rest is history.

Chuck Mullen quickly took to repairing coin-op appliances, in this time also found him in homes doing repairs from word of mouth. Chuck quickly got a job with Sears’s service department. Working full time for Sears, he still found himself at night going to homes and repairing appliances. From that point, Chuck decided to open a part-time repair business. This would be known as Mullen’s Appliance Service. Building more clientele and giving customers a cheaper option than buying new, he quickly found himself offering a one of a kind service in Lockport.

Over the years Chuck took many under his wing, training future servicemen. He thrived selling quality reconditioned appliances from a storefront. Also maintaining service calls to homes. In 2000, Chuck reached out to his niece Cherie Larsen for a Job answering phones and cleaning appliances. It was not long before Cherie herself out of boredom watched Chuck rebuild appliances and tried her hand in it, she quickly found herself going to homes and doing repairs. Cherie works directly with her husband, Russell who had an air conditioning background to operate Mullen's Appliance Service.

MAKING A LONG-STANDING APPLIANCE BUSINESS IN LOCKPORT, A FAMILY AFFAIR

In January of 2013, Charles Mullen decided to hang up his wrenches. At this time, he turned the business over to Cherie and Russell. While Cherie is at the store full time, her husband still maintains a full time job working as a mechanic, and runs a Boy Scout troop, but comes in the evenings to do service calls his wife can not get to or recondition appliances for resale. Eventually needing delivery men, they recruited there two sons Matthew and Russ Jr. to help with delivery and scrapping. Needing a store tender and cleaners, the couple recruited there two daughters Joanna and Alycia to help support our family business.
